Al Jazeera America (Al J America) the American branch of the middle east media company Al Jazeera announced that they will be shutting down Apr 30, 2016. The network’s American division which came on the air in 2013 said in an email statement that the “decision by Al J America’s board is driven by the fact that our business model is simply not sustainable in light of the economic challenges in the U.S. media marketplace.” Of course, in my opinion, that statement is translated to mean the American people from day one saw right through our propaganda and that suspicion manifest itself into poor ratings for our company. The CEO of Al Jazeera America said in a news release:
“Al Anstey, CEO of Al Jazeera America, today announced that Al Jazeera America will cease operation by April 30, 2016. While Al Jazeera America built a loyal audience across the US and increasingly was recognised as an important new voice in television news, the economic landscape of the media environment has driven its strategic decision to wind down its operations and conclude its service. Al Jazeera America is committed to conducting this process in a way that is consistent with its respect for colleagues.”
Al Jazeera which is mostly funded by the ruling family of Qatar maintained a small audience in America it was described as “tiny and immaterial” by industry insiders with an average audience of17,000 viewers in primetime. In perspective, CNN garnered a primetime viewership of 453,000 and Fox news 1.87 million. Al J America came to be after Al Jazeera bought Al Gore’s current TV for $500 million. Some would characterize this as a controversial start mainly because of Gore’s anti-petroleum stance and the fact that Qatar is undisputedly the epicenter of the petroleum industry in all its decadence worldwide.
AL J America has been wrought with controversy on an almost yearly basis. There were charges of sexism and antisemitism and a culture of fear that led to multiple shake-ups in the upper and middle levels of management. AL Jazeera has also often been accused of being a mouthpiece for various Muslim extremist voices. This of course almost ensured there would be a conga line of left wing journalist waiting to join the new American network. Despite these strange facts, they spent billions trying to push this network and its agenda on the American consumer to no avail. They brought in a who’s who of writers and commentators as they sought to create their media machine.
Islamic influences in America have ascended to predominance in America like never before. The rise of these voices and institutions have closely correlated with the rise of the new left ( These aren’t the 90’s Democrats their as close to open socialist as we’ve seen in this country.). Anti-American groups like CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood have carte blanch when it comes to accessing and influencing leaders in our highest levels of government. On top of that the liberals reluctance to even utter the words ‘radical Islam‘ just shows you the power of the Islamic lobby in America.
The demise of Al J America is likely due to one of two factors. The downturn in energy markets may have prompted the royal family in Qatar to cut their losses or this could all simply be due to the realization on their part to the fact that Americans were never going to buy what Al Jazeera was trying to sell. For now, at least, the free market has shown us once again where American sensibilities as a whole rest.
