TULSA, OK – Tulsan Meloyde Blancett, a Democrat, Thursday announced her candidacy for House District 78.
The seat is currently occupied by fellow Democrat Rep. Jeannie McDaniel who is term-limited.
“Rep. McDaniel has been a great example of how the two parties can work together to allow government to work better. I want to continue her example of strong, principled leadership in our legislature, ” Blancett said.
Blancett has owned a local business, The Blancett Group, since January 2009. It specializes in providing marketing and public relations consulting for private firms and public institutions in Oklahoma. Blancett has also worked for the State of Oklahoma, having served two-and-a-half years as Deputy Director of of Marketing & Communications for the Department of Commerce, under the leadership of Secretary of Commerce & Tourism Kathy Taylor, also former mayor of the City of Tulsa.
Blancett has lived in Tulsa since moving here from Oklahoma City in 1980, holding a variety of professional positions in companies such as Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Williams Communications and Winnercomm.
Blancett credits the time she spent working as a daily reporter for the Tulsa Tribune and Norman Transcript immediately after graduating the University of Oklahoma for sparking her interest in civic engagement. She remains involved in the community through her service in numerous nonprofit groups including the WaterWorks Art Center Advisory Council, Camp Fire Green Country, American Diabetes Association, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, the City of Tulsa Economic Development Commission, the Tulsa Artist Guild, and Fab Lab Tulsa.
