College professor Tom Guild is once again seeking the Congressional Fifth District seat.
The seat is currently held by Congressman Steve Russell (R-OK-5). The election will be held next year.
“I have spent my entire working life in public service, teaching at the university level. I can bring a fresh, outside perspective to solving the problems that so many of our current elected officials have failed to address,” Guild said. “It is time for new leadership to move our country forward again.”
Guild ran for the CD-5 seat in 2013 and won a total of 97,504 votes, the most for any Democratic candidate in 25 years according to Guild’s campaign.
The Democrat will seek his party’s nomination on a platform of protecting Medicare, expanding Social Security benefits, supporting public education, promote a higher minimum wage, address college student debt, and increase investment in infrastructure.
“I will do everything I can to help make our dysfunctional U.S. Congress work again and solve problems instead of creating them,” Guild said.
Elections for Oklahoma’s Congressional Fifth District seat will be held along with other major elections in June of 2016. You can find more information about the candidates on FortySix News 2016 Elections page.
